Born of a disillusionment with no desire for restoration, the poetic voice emerges as the inhabitant of evil—one who points to love, pestilence, and the noise of this urban horizon. Here we encounter the “potential murderer,” the neighbor who “lashes out at his wife,” and the body awaiting its worms.
