Description: Contemporary Venezuelan literature is largely the literature of migrant writers. For decades—and for various reasons—Venezuelan writers have sought to settle in various parts of the world, with the United States, Spain, and other Latin American countries becoming some of the main centers of Venezuelan migrant literary production. How is the literature of a country constructed whose creators live abroad? How does the migratory experience intervene in or modify writing? How are sensibility and idiosyncrasies redefined when subjected to foreignness, relocation, and cultural variations? These are some of the questions this phenomenon forces us to ask. Salvar la frontera presents the reader with a sample of stories by Venezuelan migrant authors, inviting them to imagine certain answers to these questions. The volume, compiled by Carlos Sandoval, a scholar specializing in Venezuelan literature, and Gustavo Valle, includes thirty stories that provide a broad and diverse panorama of contemporary Venezuelan narrative. Comprising both unpublished and published stories, the volume stands out for the thematic and stylistic diversity of its texts, as well as the generational, residential, and life and literary diversity of the eighteen male and twelve female authors whose texts were included.
