"A single path connects the town to the asylum, but it is no ordinary road. The route consists of numbered squares, and to cross it, one must follow the order and obey the rules. 'Do not step out of your squares.' 'Running is strictly prohibited.'

One day, a little man dressed as a postman arrives at the asylum carrying a bundle of letters that must be delivered by hand to their recipient, a young inmate named Federica. The guardian of the spaces is the one who receives him, but something about the man strikes him as odd, making him immediately suspicious—especially his unusual and mesmerizing way of moving his feet. Though the postman has not broken a single rule, he has not arrived at the asylum by walking but by jumping. He has a gift. Yet, in truth, the most liberating jump in the world had been invented by a woman."

Born in Caracas and based in Spain since 2007, his literary work spans essays, short stories, interviews, theater, and novels such as La ciclista de las soluciones imaginarias, El olvido de Bruno, La niña del salto, Vínculos: apuntes con Rubén Blades, Enjambres, and Ser gato, among others. His works have been translated into English, Italian, Serbian, Turkish, and Portuguese. He was a finalist for the Ciudad Ducal de Loeches Novel Prize (2008) and won the Albert Camus International Novel Prize (2010). In 2011, he received a residency grant at the Centre d’Art La Rectoria in Barcelona for a novelistic research project on Peter Handke’s work and media censorship.

Since 2014, he has developed the literary creation program "Creating from Sensations" for Alzheimer’s patients, as well as the literary project "Fiction as a Path to Transform Reality" in correctional facilities such as Edgecombe Correctional (New York) in collaboration with the Osborne Association.
