Through a combination of discursive repertoires such as notes, narratives, theoretical quotations, photographs, critical arguments, historical archives, and footnotes, Castro assembles a narrative and conceptual artifact that destabilizes each of these forms and weaves a web of unexpected connections between the materiality of the ruin, theoretical reflections on the remainder and spectrality, the political and social situation in Venezuela, the character's private and emotional life, and a surprising library of Venezuelan history, literature, culture, and art. This book enters and leaves the country through a unique and novel literary strategy that combines historical and theoretical rigor with an emotional and sensitive dimension that reveals other possible readings of the Venezuelan conflict.
